Profile

My name is Ian Jones. I'm a Multimedia Design Technologist from Brisbane, Australia.

I design and create things. My work / interests span many mediums such as print, web, motion, sound and music, interactive and physical environments. I leverage various technologies from ground up electronics, micro-processors and hardware all the way up through the layers of protocols, platforms, API's, programming and scripting to the various software tools at other end of the spectrum. As a multimedia designer my expertise is in bringing these multiple mediums and multiple technologies together. I'm passionate about every aspect of design and technology because I love both form and function.

Philosophy

I'm fascinated by invention; the process of coming up with new ideas, then exploring, designing, engineering and producing them. Invention encapsulates both form and function. Therefore, I see design and technology in a shared and holistic context, something I call the 'synergistic relationship of design and technology'.

You'll find me dreaming about, imagining, exploring, creating, tinkering and engineering things. This is my absorbing passion, to explore the possibilities of design and technology as they should be; seen in the same context and working in synergy.

Practice

In practical terms, my interests in both form and function have led me to explore a wide array of mediums and technologies, with a focus on the web. Although the depth of my knowledge varies from novice to expert across the spectrum, I'm a fast learner and leverage this to tackle all kinds of projects. I enjoy multi-disciplinary work and self directed learning especially.
